We have no love for Red Tape!

Allow me to relate something that happened just yesterday.

Customer: Hey, u guys gotta help me, man! I ordered canapes  from [deleted] and guess what , last minute , I found out that they did not process my order! My wine party is at 9pm. And its already 6pm now! I’ve got 30 guests coming! OMG   Sophia slug: There’s still some time left, they should be able to do it? Customer: They can’t as they need instructions from their Head Office as they need my work order. Sophia slug : Ok! We’ll be happy to whip something up for u! We’ll see you in an hr!

So, immediately we whipped out an impromptu menu for him at 620pm and he came to pick the canapes up at 715pm :-) With speedy fingers and Astair-esque feet, Michael slug & Jian Yun completed this in 55 minutes flat to feed 30 hungry souls: ( while cooking for the in-house diners)

  • Feta cheese, stuffed olive and grape on skewers
  • Romaine salad cup with Grilled Ribeye, topped with a dash of exotic Lemongrass dressing
  • Carrot discs topped with smoked Salmon, chopped olives and fresh herbs
  • Miniature Brownie popsicles
  • Mango Alphonso cubes topped with sweetened Longans

What we learnt from this episode is that Red Tape sucks! (Trust me, we have experienced this first hand from the “higher authorities”… )Therefore, our mantra at the slug  is always, “ Service from the Heart“. And our hearts are not governed by a 70 page operations manual ! We don’t have a “HQ ” to ask for ” approval” from, a mysterious “Dept Mgr” to get a Yes/No from. Basically, if we can do it, you bet we will do it for you!  As simple as that :-)

This is the Flapper that we are more familiar with…. Sweet eyes and goofy smile= irresistable ! The little guy on Flapper’s left  is Dumbo :-) So, Corrine if you are reading this, ( Corrine is Flapper’s owner and best friend) we will volunteer to be Flapper’s talent manager ok?

Little Slug needs new clothes

I needs a new look for next month. You knows what next month is, right?

C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S. Yesh, that time of the year. Jingle, jingle.

That’s mean there gonna be photoshoots galore. I’s have to smile & pose with every turkey & fruitcake & whatnot that these jokers in the shop cooks up.

So.

U still with me?

I needs a new costume. Last year they put me in this:
Santa Slug_small2.jpg

That’s so… 2008. U know?

OK, so help me out plz. The winning look/design will be handsomely rewarded with whatever I can steal from the kitchen.

Depends on how nimble I be, I can maybe get away with either:

1) A brownie popsicle Xmas Tree (worth $80) <– ya, it’s a xmas tree that’s made entirely out of brownie popsicles!

or

2) A tender oven-baked Turkey + A brownie popsicle Xmas Tree (worth $135 + $80)

or

3) A Xmas Take-home Party Kit to feed 4-6pax (worth $360)

How? Can helps or not?

Here’s my best portfolio photo, full-frontal in artistic black & white.
You can use this. [click on image to enlarge]

You can colour-colour, or use computer, or whatever it is u’re comfortable with.

You can get your two-year-old, your pet tortoise or your graphic designer BFF to do it for you also can, we won’t discriminate. Just, nothing lewd, hokay?

I’m everywhere. Send your new Xmas 2009 look for me to any one of the following:
a) E-mail: justask@thegardenslug.com

b) Upload to my Facebook “wall”

c) Upload anywhere & bring it to my attention by tweeting @thegardenslug on Twitter

Are you “foreign talent” too?

Picture 1The Garden Slug is proud to support TWC2 (Transient Workers Count Too) and HOME (Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics).

Why? Because TGS itself is owned, operated & staffed by a healthy mixture of local & foreign talent. The cause is one that is very close to our hearts.

We all get along really well with each other here at TGS, regardless of our backgrounds. We have fun, we have our ups & down, we treat each other like family.

We are aware, however, not all foreigners have it so good.

Being a cosmopolitan migrant society, it is shameful that not many of our foreign worker friends are being treated right in Singapore.

As part of our ongoing Commitment to Social Responsibility programme:
1) For TWC2, we translated their sixteen-page SMS helpline from English to Chinese.
TWC2 will also be doing up Tamil, Indonesian, Malay and Tagalog SMS helplines as soon as they trial run the effectiveness of the Chinese version.

2) We crafted & sponsored Brownie Popsicles for H.O.M.E.’s volunteer event (tomorrow!)

Do check out the TWC2 and HOME websites & give in whatever ways you can :)

Let’s not just tolerate, let’s embrace diversity.
