What’s your idea of Comfort Food?

DSC02554 by you.

Actual photo of my supper at home! The D.O rocks the stove!

My humble idea of some good soul food…. Plain ramen soup with 2 slices of luncheon meat + boiled egg + vegetables…. Simple but delishh!! I think everybody has a pretty different idea of what “comfort food’ means to them.. What is your idea of  “Comfort Food” ? :-)

Come and makan at our “Living Room”

Thematic Dinner: Comfy Living Room Setting

We created this cosy Living Room corner for Joy and Jones’ hang-out party :-) They wanted a spot where they can feel like they are just chilling out at a good bud’s home.. So we put together our comfy sofas, some funky cushions, leafy plants, a reading lamp and cooked a hearty dinner for them!

Chirpy coffee tables for Jones & Joy's "living room dinner" setting

Check out these tables..  So chirpy and colourful!

We hope Joy and Jones had a blast! :-) At The Garden Slug, we feel good about saying Yes, as far as possible. “If we can do it, we sure as hell will try!” So far, we have converted our place into a glitzy Getai Cabaret (!!) , a straight-laced conference room, a wedding solemnization site, an art exhibition area, a band jamming zone etc. And we are definitely having fun creating fun for our customers and friends.. So let us know if u need a space for your next outing ! Just pay for the food and bev, the venue’s on us!

Black is the new Black .. a bit of food pOrn!

Swanky events hall @ client's office

Joe, Jose and I went a-vroom in the trusty ol” slug mobile to an all-black party this evening.. It was hosted by some friendly folks from a well-known creative firm , and was set in their very swanky office/events hall  in a 2-storey shophouse. Think crushed velvet, chandeliers and gothic candle stands.

Ok, we have to admit that we were soo caught up in the food and service grind that we forgot to take pics! We only remembered to take snaps of the salad and the dessert.. boohoo.

Client's table setting w/ jewelled napkin holder!

This is the table setting with a jewelled table napkin holder. Very luxe!

Petite Greek Salad w/ home-marinated herby feta, cherry tomatoes & artisan vinaigrette

Our 2nd appetizer of the night – Petite Greek Salad with home-marinated herby feta, cherry tomatoes and artisan vinagrette. Check out how ornate and dramatic the plates are!

Operation Dessert Storm!

The battalion of sweets, all lined up and ready for Jose to pickup! Erm, Operation Dessert-Storm? ** call the corn police!**

Tiramisu cube w/ sweet strawberry halves, mint & white sugar icing, topped w/ bittersweet cocoa

Close up of the Tiramisu Cube with sweet Strawberry halves,  mint and white sugar icing. Topped with bittersweet cocoa.

We were so thrilled that Francis, Agnes and their guests enjoyed the food :-) Thank you so much for your feedback, we’re so flattered! And happy too, of course that your key clients enjoyed themselves.

Our full sit down menu for the evening was:

  • 1st Appetizer : Warm soup of gently-boiled Spring vegetables in a broth of South-east Asian herbs and spices. Served with a herb infused Panini Crostini skewered on a Lemon-grass spear
  • 2nd Appetizer: Petite Greek Salad with home-marinated herbed feta cheese, cherry tomatoes and artisan vinagrette
  • Fish Option : Baked Snow Cod -brown bag style with an emulsion of Orange Lime butter. Topped with fresh ginger and served with Frozen Lime leaf butter by side
  • Red meat Option : Premium Aust Ribeye Steak Bits in a red wine sauce of chunky button white mushrooms, rosemary and caramelized onions
  • Poultry Option : Provencale Ratatouille with whole boneless Chicken Leg and slow-baked tri-coloured vegetables
  • Sweets : Tiramisu Cube with sweet Strawberry halves,  mint and white sugar icing. Topped with bittersweet cocoa.
  • Beverage : Gentle Strawberry and Mint-infused Iced Tea

It’s almost 1am…. gotta go tango with my pillow soon. We’ve got another busy day ahead! Tmrw, we’ll be turning a corner of the garden slug into a “living room dining area“.. Some happy folks will be having their dinner home-style, complete with leafy potted plants, cushy sofas and huggable cushions. Gdnite y’all !

You matter.

Sharon's mini pot plant, origin unknown
• When you love the work you do and the people you do it with, you matter.
• When you are so gracious and generous and aware that you think of other people before yourself, you matter.
• When you leave the world a better place than you found it, you matter.
• When you continue to raise the bar on what you do and how you do it, you matter.
• When you teach and forgive and teach more before you rush to judge and demean, you matter.
• When you touch the people in your life through your actions (and your words), you matter.
• When kids grow up wanting to be you, you matter.
• When you see the world as it is, but insist on making it more like it could be, you matter.
• When you inspire a Nobel prize winner or a slum dweller, you matter.
• When the room brightens when you walk in, you matter.
• And when the legacy you leave behind lasts for hours, days or a lifetime, you matter.

“The road to The Garden Slug is paved with new tiles & stuff “

A little bit of reno at the al fresco dining area

I took this snapshot earlier on today at around 230pm.. The good folks from Bright centre are going to be covering up the exterior drainage area .. This means that we”ll have a covered walkway next to our diner. Yay! Let’s hope it’d be tiled too, we want a boulevard !!  :-)  So far, we have not experienced any noise and dust at all as the construction guys have been diligently blocking off the areas that are being worked on.  — So, yes ! Our sanity is still intact :-) They mentioned that the project will be chopchop completed in 3 weeks’ time..

Have a great week ahead, slugphiles !

The Garden Slug on Twitter

Are you more of a Tweeter than a Facebooker? Follow us @thegardenslug.

The Garden Slug on Twitter

We tweet our daily specials, event notifications, seating availability etc. We’ll also tweet who’s manning the shop so you can pop by & visit your favourite slug, heh! (We’re guessing Jose Mari’s the new slug-throb, what with the bulging muscles & recent display of flambé-ing skills!)

Feel free to tweet us to place reservations, give feedback on food, service, decor etc. (tell us if any of our slugs or the next door parrot is misbehaving) and ask anything of us (short of our secret recipes lah), or even chit chat & talk about the weather. Let us know what you’d like us to tweet about too. Take it as our one-stop dedicated digital call centre!
