(Rather) old news! – Our all organic Christmas Star!

Christmas Star made from cinnamon sticks, by Maye-E

Thank you Maye-e! One of our favourite sun-kissed customers ( who’s also a kicka** fotog) made us a cool Christmas Star made from a bunch of Cinnamon sticks, satay bamboo pick and leftover wire :-) I was lamenting to her that we lost our Barbie doll Christmas angel, and she actually crafted this replacement for the slugs- how sweet! She and Michael (Our most vertically-blessed slug) climbed up the ladder and tied it to the top of our humungous tree. Should have blogged this pic earlier, but all our eyes were glued onto Turkey TV ( that’s the slug oven, geddit?… hahah! ) for the past 7 days.. ** Maye-e, I hope you’re ok with us borrowing this pic from Facebook** THANK YOU ! And we hope u had a lovely holiday with your family & friends!

~will update Tree Porn pics of the new crochet angels that Sharon’s mum made, once I get down to the slug on Wed~

The Essential Guide to throwing a fabulous Christmas Soirée

Announcement:

Due to overwhelming demand (phones ringing off the hook, turkeys flying off the shelves, you get the picture…) we’ve extended our Christmas Take-home Kit ordering deadline to 21 December 2008.

‘Tis the season for cosy home parties, reminiscing and rekindling, with great company and abundant food.

Impress your guests & loved ones ~ here’s how to do it the quick & easy way.

You will need just a few essential items:

(1) The turkey.

Preferably already honeyed, herbed and stuffed. Don’t get your hands dirty. It’s Christmas!!

(2) The Bratwurst. (lots of it)

We hear this year the German ones are all the rage. The trick is in the condiments you provide by the side. Pair it with the sauerkraut and the french mustard – guaranteed can’t go wrong!

(3) The Chicken Wings.

What’s a party without the chicken wings?

(4) The Ruffage.

Also another must-have. It shows your guests that you CARE about having the balanced diet, even amidst all the festivities. Toss in the cranberries and the toasted nuts for that extra Christmassy touch.

(5) The DESSERT!

‘Cause the desserts are fun-fun-fun!

(6) The good wine, the wall decorations and the cute Santa/ elf/ snowman costumes!

And you’re all set! Good to go!

Or you know what? You could let us do all the work for you. Lagi easy, right? We will even bake you a kick-a**, giant Shepherd’s Pie.

You don’t have to get off your seat. Don’t even have to pick up the phone.

Just book online ~ (it’s the next best thing to telepathic communication!)

The Garden Slug (and a few borrowed christmas elves) will take care of everything for you. If you’re quick with the clickety-click of the mouse, we’ll even throw in a good bottle of Shiraz Cabernet.
(you’re on your own with the wall deco & costumes though…)

“Bento-ver” – geddit?

A client requested for fancy packed lunches, and instead of our brown bags lunches, we thought it’d be so fun and so visually-exciting to make some fancy Hors d’oeuvre bentos instead. We sourced for the “6-treasure” display boxes used for Chinese New Year goodies and filled them with slug tiny eats instead.. We’re glad that the client was delighted! :-)

Time to brag about our divine new Xmas tree!

Retro crochet stars made my Sharon Slug's mum :)

Joe + Chris + José (our cute new slug) + myself started work at 430am today.. Unbelievable as it seems, we had 5 events lined up and so we had loads of prep work to do.. I took this picture of our new Christmas tree, as soon as I saw light.. Check out the luscious firs.. It’s REAL :-) …And it smells absolutely divine. If you look closely, you can find pegs with white painted hearts & little green wooden ladybugs. Check out the tri-coloured fussili.. Joe mentioned that we’ll cook them for staff lunch after Xmas, haha. (I hope he’s kidding! :-0 )

And look at those oh-so-retro crochet stars! Sharon slug’s mum actually made them by hand, aren’t they absolutely gorgeous?!!

“Yes Mr President!”

Trio of Sweets

The Garden Slug scored itself a cool event on Thursday.. Mr Oscar Arias Sanchez, the president of Costa Rica was in Singapore to conduct some trade talks and we were tasked to create a healthy lunch for him and EDB.

We par-cooked the courses at the slug kitchen, and finished the cooking/ plating at the EDB kitchen.

This was the menu we prepared for Mr Sanchez:

1. Blended White Button mushrooms in organic Porcini stock, with warm panini and Pesto Pinenut oil by side

2. Chilled rocket and frizzy greens with grilled Chicken Breast, sweet cherry tomatoes and a drizzle of multigrain vinaigrette

3. Japanese Snow Cod baked with rosemary and olive oil on a bed of pureed roasted carrots and garlic. Served with hand-moulded Holland Potato Cake encrusted with fresh chopped parsley and soy bacon. pan-seared warm tri-coloured Antipasto completed the ensemble.

4. Trio of Sweets – signature Brownie Popsicle coated with semi-sweet french chocolate, Ripe Strawberry dipped in Exquiste white chocolate and dusted with hand-mortared pistachios & Shot Glass of Vanilla-infused Seaweed gelatin layered wth reduced oranges pulp and topped off with custard & Cinnamon sugar. A sweet crystaled cinnamon stick completes the look.

Unfortunately, we only managed to take a quick shot of the last course, Lunch was served at a breakneck pace as I think they had to go for another meeting after a quick meal…

The EDB folks were warm and they created a workable pantry for us to whip up lunch. Thank you to Hui Shi, Raymond & Felicia!

We’re glad that they enjoyed lunch and the butler service provided by our very smartly-decked out Joseph , Chris and Hans slugs. Starched white shirt + Black Tie = so M.I.B haha!

Right after that event, we rushed back to the shop to pick up another load of party food for the FSV 15 event ( Film-Sound-Vison 15th Annv) … And headed straight to Movida at St James Powerstation for a 250 guests party.

pseudo-"artistic" shots...

The shots were quite badly-lit…. sorry! We were in such a rush, really didn’t have much time to do much to the camera. We bumped into ex-slug Jonathan and we saw Pierre Png and his wife ( can’t remember her name! ooops) , they’re soooo THIN! Basicaly the event called for artsy food items with minimal eating fuss.. So we made some of our usual pretty food.. Strawberries… Brownies…. And also a special new item- industrial-looking ( Intentionally mass-produced look and feel) cups of Pasta Aglio Olio in identically-labeled plastic cups, served with chop sticks. – Installation Food Art, anyone?

Ok, gotta rush to the shop now, Michael slug needs a new frying pan!! And Tofu !! And Salt!!

More updates later! But not much Food pOrn, sorry. Hope you guys are not too disappointed!
