We had a fantastic turnout for Dennis’ debut photgraphy exhibition, ” Sons”. The people came in troves and had a good time. People always seem to have a good time when there’s wine, pretty food and pretty people. A little shout- out to the sweet folks from www.wineaffaire.com who so kindly sponsored the delicious wine. By the way, the exhibition will still be on all the way from now to the end of November 07. Pop by to support Dennis ok?
A bird’s eye view of the spread for the evening. We created a menu that was easy on the eyes, fuss-free to facilitate easy mingling and exchanging of views ( Not on the cpf issue of course, silly, even though personally I do think that the garmen…… oops ) The food was designed to be multi-textured and of different shapes and colours to reveal a contrast with the mostly B & W photos.
We know that Dennis is a little camera-shy, so look, we’ve found a small lil’ pic of our favourite shutterbug..Isn’t he a cutie? For more info on Dennis and his craft, check out www.fotocology.com
And now the Food porn !!!
Swwweeets!!
Healthy & Tasty- yes- such a combinaton does exist!
The filling tastes almost like bolognese sauce.. delish~
On average= 50 calories per cup. Or 48 calories if you’re like me and gave your Celery stick away. hehe.
Little morsels of spinach creamed with eggs and spices. They look like UFOs!
light and zesty. Just like my feline brain today. Except that it’s just light, not zesty. hehe
ooooo… Time for wine and silly stories… we like!

* obiang= kitschy , tacky
Yes- the cake that you see here is quite out of The Garden Slug’s character.. We usually do cakes that well… look like regular cakes. But one of our main service mantras is to make exceptions for our customers/friends.. As a joke, our favourite birthday boy wanted a cake that has old-fashioned wafer flowers ( remember those?) So we got the stuff from a cake supplies shop in Tanjong Katong Complex and holy-macaroni, our not-too-sweet mango cake gets transformed into this! what a hoot!

Gosh, it was a busy day at The Garden Slug today as 3 slugs got into our trusty ol’ van and went a people-feeding.. We were tasked to prepare the food & beverages for 2 back-to-back events today and we sure had fun
We’re always thankful and heartened by the fact that our customers trust us to plan for such important events.
Our 1st event of the day. The food was created to reflect a ” summery, light and happy day” . Check out the ermm smiley shrimps.

Our 2nd event of the day. This one really tickled our creativity as our client wanted a party with an oriental/ asian theme. We created a fun spread with lots of chinoserie artifacts and visuals.

I just had to put in this pic!! Check out the darling tea pot with the chicken motif. We used it for our fiery dried-chilli infused soy sauce.

Sons
I saw your face
In the mirror yesterday,
Smiling.
Could you see me on the other side?
I remembered the masculine initiation rituals.
The rites of passage.
Into regularity. A totality.
Today I stared at the mirror again,
but all I saw was fragility.
Our favourite shutterbug, Dennis Chong (www.fotocology.com ) will be sharing his passion on photography and showing us his latest work. Join us for the launch of ” Sons” , his debut photography exhibition at The Garden Slug.
21 September 07 Friday 7pm till late / Light refreshments will be served / RSVP : sharon@thegardenlsug.com / HP 92257913

About a month back, Dennis -who is already a regular at our humble li’l diner- sent us some photos he took of his favourite comfort food. We continued e-mailing back and forth and he suggested “doing a collection of ur restaurant photos and hang them at ur restaurant because I noticed you have really nice walls that could do with some hangings!”
We loved the idea, and Dennis agreed to pop by one quiet Monday afternoon. We cooked, Dennis did his magic, and then we all sat together and wolfed down the food.

And in a few months, it’ll be our first anniversary.
In the beginning, the three of us worked 14-hour shifts everyday, from opening to closing, seven days a week. We also had our friends David and Elaine, to whom we are eternally grateful, help us out during the mad slams.
Then we decided that Tuesdays shall be our day of rest. Two menu revamps and several hairstyle changes later, we now have two good boys Chris and Michael helping us out.
We thank you for your kindness, generosity and support. You are what keeps us going!
